Custom label

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As a custom label record labels are called, offer the musicians without recording contract the service to produce their plates themselves. This procedure was particularly common in the USA in the 1950s and 1960s. Major labels such as Columbia Records , RCA Victor and Decca Records offered custom processes.

One of the first custom series was introduced by the West Coast label Four Star Records . Musicians could send in their songs and have 500 records pressed, which Four Star - published in the OP series (Other People) - sent back to the musician. In 1955, this procedure was adopted by Starday Records and the record company Rite Record Productions from Cincinnati .
