Budget label

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Budget label describes a type of record label that specializes in releasing covers of current hits . The interpreters who cover the hits are only mentioned slightly or not at all. The records are being sold cheaper, especially to appeal to poorer buyers. The cover versions are often called " soundalikes " (German: "similar sounding").

These days, budget labels are no longer common, while some such labels existed, especially in the US record market in the 1950s and 1960s. Entire recording companies also specialized in this area.
