Custom House

The Custom House ( English "customs house" ) is a historic building in the Victorian town center in the New Zealand town of Oamaru in the region Otago . It is located at the intersection of Tyne Street and Wansbeck Street.

It was built in 1884 to designs by the architects Forrester & Lemon in the Victorian style typical of the historic city center of Oamaru as a British customs house for the then important port of Oamaru.

Today it is used by the North Otago Arts Society . This has also set up a gallery here.

On July 2, 1987, the building was classified as a Category 1 Monument (Historic Place Category I) by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust under number 3461 .
