Cutty Ranks

Cutty Ranks (actually Philip Thomas ; * 1965 in Jamaica ) is a reggae and dancehall musician.

Cutty Ranks began reggae music at the age of 14. In his early years he was influenced by artists such as Josey Wales . He played with the formation Killamanjaro , where he played with EarlyB , Super Cat , Puddy Roots and Little Twitch . In the 1980s he released his debut single "Gunman Lyrics" on the Winston Riley label . There he later published songs like "Out Of Hand" and "Fishman Lyrics".

In 1991 he released his first album entitled "The Stopper". The albums "Lethal Weapon" and "Retreat" followed in the same year. A year later he released "From Mi Heart" and finally in 1996 his most successful album to date, "6 Million Ways to Die". In 2000 Ranks released his album "Back With A Vengeance", which was produced by King Jammy and with which he took a new musical direction. On the album he mainly sings hip-hop and dancehall songs. Cutty Ranks' lyrics are increasingly being sampled outside of the dancehall and reggae genres in drum-and-bass / jungle tracks.
