Cycloneuralia
Ahlrichs , 1995

The Cycloneuralia are a rank-less taxon , in which five strains of worm-like, invertebrate animals are united, the roundworms (Nematoda) and the string worms ( Nematomorpha) as well as priapworms (Priapulida), corset animals (Loricifera) and hookweed (Kinorhyncha).

features

The common feature of the cycloneuralia is a characteristic structure of the brain, which ring-shaped surrounds the pharynx or other areas of the anterior digestive tract . It shows a typical structure consisting of the somata of the brain cells in front and behind and a central fiber ring (neuropili). A single or a pair of nerve cords emerge from the ventral (ventral) area of the brain ring.

Systematics

The taxon was established in 1995 by Wilko Ahlrichs on the basis of morphological aspects with the following internal systematics:

The same group was summarized by Claus Nielsen in 1995 in the Taxon Introverta. Nielsen also uses the term cycloneuralia. In his opinion, however, the taxon includes the abdominal curls (Gastrotricha) in addition to the taxa listed above (Introverta sensu Nielsen, 1995 ).
