The St. Cyriakus Chapel in Lindenberg in Rhineland-Palatinate is a place of pilgrimage for winegrowers , built from and in the remains of Lindenberg Castle .
Every year on the anniversary of St. Cyriakus, August 8, vintners bring precocious grapes to the chapel and place them on the altar, asking for protection for their vineyards.
investment
The chapel is located in the Palatinate Forest on a 230 m high foothill of the rear Langenberg . It is freely accessible. In front of the chapel there is a stone altar which, according to the inscription, was only erected in 2004 by “ Die Pensionner ”.
history
The construction of today's chapel in the castle's neck ditch began around 1543. The material came from Lindenberg Castle, built in the 13th century, which had previously existed in the same place and was destroyed between 1364 and 1371.
The chapel was listed as a new building in 1550 (/ 56), using older building materials, probably the remains of the chapel already listed as " Sant Ziriax Capellen " in 1543 .
legend
According to a legend, the chapel was originally supposed to be built in the lower village. Overnight, however, all the building materials disappeared again and again and could be found again and again at the site of today's chapel.
