Ithaque is a former French department consisting of the islands of Ithaca and Kefalonia with the capital Argostoli . The governor was Giovanni Francesco Zulatti , a doctor from Lixouri .

The department was founded in 1797 on the occasion of the annexation of the Ionian Islands by France and dissolved in 1799 (finally in 1802). To this day both islands form an administrative district of the Republic of Greece .

The other departments of the Ionian Islands were Corcyre and Mer-Égée .
