Mer-Égée department

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mer-Égée (German " Aegean Sea ") was a French department from 1797 to 1798 .

As one of the three departments of the Ionian Islands , it comprised the islands of Zakynthos , Kythira , the Strofaden and Dragamesto (today Astakos, part of Xiromero ) on the Greek mainland.

The other departments were Corcyre and Ithaque .

From 1807 to 1809 these islands came under French rule again , but did not have the administrative status of a department.
