Dune field northeast of Neuses Grafe (officially dune field NE of Grafe Neuses , also dunes at Grafe Neuses ) is a geological site in the district of hostage Winder hamlet Grafe Neuses in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen .

Geographical location

The dune field can be found northeast of Gräfenneuses on the so-called Sandberg. The KT 48 district road runs north of the geotope between Gräfenneuses and Ebersbrunn . The area is crossed by the local hiking trail G1 and largely used for forestry . The geotope covers a total area of 21 hectares.

description

The dunes in the forest of Gräfenneuses are already part of the Steigerwald . They are the sand dunes furthest to the east in the Kitzingen district, as all the others have settled in the Main Valley . These are main ramparts up to 15 m high and several meters wide. Some of them have a sharp crest and are separated from each other by smaller valleys. A V-shaped double dune can be seen in the center, which turns several times to the northeast. No sand outcrops can be seen.

The grains of sand come from the rocks in the Main Valley and were ground round by the river. Then they were deposited not far from today's Volkach , were blown by the wind and blown up in the Steigerwald. Some of the sands also come from the Fichtel Mountains . The Bavarian State Office for the Environment classifies the dune field as a geotope with the number 675R006.
