DATZ aquarium magazine is in the nature and wildlife - Publisher magazine for aquarists . It is the organ of the Association of German Societies for Aquarium and Terrarium Studies ( VDA ) e. V. and the Association of Austrian Aquarium and Terrarium Associations. It appears monthly, in 2014 in the 67th year. Since the change of publisher from Eugen Ulmer Verlag to Natur und Tier-Verlag in summer 2011, the content concept has been streamlined to include freshwater, seawater and ponds. Before that, DATZ also addressed terraristics, as evidenced by the letter "T" in the abbreviation DATZ, which was then called "The Aquarium and Terrarium Magazine".

The L-numbers commonly used in aquaristics to designate unidentified Loricariids ( armor catfish ) were developed in 1988 by, among others, Rainer Stawikowski, the then and current editor-in-chief of the magazine, and continued as before. The new L numbers are presented or assigned in DATZ. Analogous to this, C-numbers for Callichthyidae ( armored and callous catfish ) were assigned by Hans-Georg Evers from 1993 . The relevant articles on L and C numbers are available online.

Aquarium practice

Until the change of publisher in 2011, each DATZ issue was also accompanied by the 15–20 page aquarium practice , which was thematically addressed to the somewhat inexperienced aquarist and imparted the basics. The publication was discontinued with issue 07/2011.
