The vehicles of the VT 33.8 series were three railcars procured by the US Army in the 1950s . They were always owned by the American Army and were only maintained by the German Federal Railroad . From 1968 the vehicles were designated as the 633.8 series.

history

The three railcars were built in 1957 by DWM - Deutsche Waggon- und Maschinenfabriken Berlin (DWM and the companies SEAG Waggonbau, Dreis - Tiefenbach - Siegen and Rheinstahl Transporttechnik merged in 1971 to form Waggon Union GmbH Berlin and Siegen).

The vehicles were included in the numbering plan of the Deutsche Bundesbahn as VT 33 801 to 803 and were given the designation 633 801-803 in 1968. The high ordinal number from 801 came about because there were pre-war vehicles of the VT 32, VT 137 and VT 145 series that were listed by the DB as VT 33.1, VT 33.2 and VT 33.5. The .8 also went with the VT 08.8 series diesel multiple units used by the US Army .

In 1977 the vehicles 633 801 and 803 were still in stock, in 1990 the 633 803 was the last vehicle in the DB with the note "not owned by DB". In the meantime, the home had changed from the Heidelberg depot to the Mannheim depot. The paintwork of the 633 803 changed in the 1980s from royal blue / cream to wine red / beige, to match the US Army multiple unit VT 08.8. The last 633 was retired on November 30, 1990.

Whereabouts

633 801 parked in Kemzeke, Belgium

The 633 801, which was decommissioned in 1985, stood for a long time in Maldegem / Belgium on a factory site next to a football field (corner of Konigin Astridlaan / Bogaardestraat) and is privately owned. It is currently on the Verbeke Foundation site in Kemzeke.

The 633 802, which was retired in 1973, landed in Italy (Udine) at the company Friul Motor Alfredo Bulfone, Udine (where numerous former DB diesel vehicles were bought) after it was considered lost for a few years and was used there as a storage room. It was scrapped in 1994.

The 633 803 was taken out of service in 1990 by the Gleisbaufa. Cronau, Bad Homburg, where it was converted into a yellow-painted track construction vehicle. Because of a mix-up, this railcar was accidentally scrapped in the mid-1990s.
