DB BahnPark
The DB Bahn Park GmbH is a subsidiary of DB Station & Service and car park operator Contipark . The task of DB BahnPark is to plan and operate multi-storey car parks and parking areas near train stations. The subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn DB Station & Service holds the majority of the shares.
Contipark as the operator
The company has transferred the management of its parking facilities to Contipark Parkgaragengesellschaft mbH. The company is a 100% subsidiary of Interparking and was founded in 1967 in Berlin. The first multi-storey car park was in the Europa Center , a landmark of what was then West Berlin . Contipark is one of the largest parking space managers and manages around 500 properties with around 130,000 parking spaces in more than 180 cities in Germany and Austria (as of 2015).
Cooperation between DB Park and Contipark
Since 2005 Contipark International Parking GmbH (49%) has operated the joint venture DB BahnPark GmbH together with DB Station & Service AG (51%). Since then, Contipark has been responsible for managing the restricted and unrestricted parking facilities of DB BahnPark GmbH.
Black parking vs. rip off
In some Internet forums and press articles there was written about an alleged "rip-off" at German train stations by the operator. Contipark, on the other hand, refers to clear signage and the contract and setting conditions displayed in the station parking area and thus to a legally justified punishment of "black parking". However, the consumer advice center Baden-Württemberg has already successfully sued Contipark (Landgericht Berlin, Az. 4 O 136/08).
In 2007 and 2012, however , the Wiesbaden district court ruled in favor of the operator. In the grounds of the court it is said that the parking lot is clearly designated as private area and that black parkers are threatened with a contractual penalty. Furthermore, the general terms and conditions are posted on the parking ticket machine.
