German Cochlear Implant Society

The German Cochlear Implant Society e. V. (DCIG) is a federal association representing the interests of hard of hearing and deaf people who are provided with hearing aids, but above all with a cochlear implant (CI). The DCIG is recognized as a non-profit association and registered at the Hanover District Court , the office is in Senden .

history

The association was founded in December 1987 as a joint effort by those affected, doctors, technicians and educators. The area of ​​activity extends to the entire German-speaking area. The non-profit association has been a federal association since 1998. The first managing director was Ernst Lehnhardt, who introduced CI implantation in Germany in 1984 and was the first ear, nose and throat doctor in the world to treat a deaf child with cochlear implants.

tasks

The tasks of the association include support for the hearing impaired, the political work for the benefit of people with hearing impairments , providing guidance and information on hearing loss to deafness deaf bordering or deaf people before and after the supply of cochlear implants (CI), public relations , the promotion of CI self-help in Germany, the promotion of CI-supplied children and adolescents as well as ensuring long-term aftercare for all CI wearers. Affiliated to the German Cochlear Implant Society are eight regional associations with over 130 self-help groups throughout Germany. The DCIG is also the publisher of the specialist journal Schnecke - Living with Cochlear Implants and Hearing Aids.

The association has been initiating the German CI Day every year since 2005. The aim of the CI day is to get into a "dialogue at eye level" with various professions dealing with CI care.
