The Burgergemeinde Bern, DC Bank Deposito-Cassa der Stadt Bern ( DC Bank for short ) is a Swiss regional bank anchored in Bern . It was organized in 1825 as a bank for the civic community of Bern in the form of a public law institution .

history

When the English stock market collapsed in April 1825, the Grand Council issued an order to the city administration in Bern to place the cash reserves in local banks. The Finance Commission refused to do this, however, as it did not consider the existing banks to be too secure in view of the prevailing banking crisis. Therefore, on July 1, 1825, the DC Bank Deposito-Cassa of the city of Bern was founded. In the same year, the bank issued Switzerland's first banknote.
