The DIN standard DIN 1998 defines the placement of lines and systems in public traffic areas. It is a guideline for planning and laying the supply and disposal lines under the road structure . These include water pipes , telecommunications , natural gas pipelines , electrical supply and sewerage for wastewater and day water .

DIN 1998 specifies how deep and how far from each other all these cables must be stored under the sidewalk and the road structure in the ground.
