DIVA-GIS

DIVA-GIS is a free geographic information system - software for mapping and geographic data analysis. The software is specially designed for mapping and analyzing biodiversity data and was developed in its first application to study wild potato deposits in South America . With DIVA-GIS, the distribution of individuals or point distribution can be analyzed.

Emergence

DIVA-GIS was developed as a joint project by the Centro Internacional de la Papa , the International Plant Genetic Resources Institute , the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology at the University of California at Berkeley , the Secretariat of the Pacific Community and the FAO ( Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations). DIVA-GIS has a wide range of tools for the evaluation of mapping and modeling of habitats , as they are necessary for the protection of biodiversity.

Formats

DIVA-GIS can process all standard GIS formats, including all data from ESRI programs ( ArcView , ArcGIS ). So far the program has only run on the Windows interface. The DIVA grid files can be exported and imported into the modeling programs maxent and R.
