DJ Arafat (2010)

DJ Arafat (real name Ange Didier Houon ; born January 26, 1986 in Cocody , Ivory Coast ; † August 12, 2019 in Abidjan ) was an Ivorian musician who also performed under the name Arafat Muana . He was considered one of the pioneers of coupé-decalé music.

Life

DJ Arafat was born in 1986 to singer Tina Glamor and musician Houon Pierre. In 2003 he released his first of a total of eleven albums. He celebrated successes especially on the Ivory Coast and in France . In the music scene, he was considered a leading representative of the coupé-decalé genre.

On August 11, 2019, DJ Arafat was involved in a traffic accident in his hometown of Abidjan , of which he died the following day. There were incidents at the funeral. Several fans stormed the cemetery, opened the coffin, stripped the corpse and photographed him. The police then used tear gas. As a result, 12 people were arrested. When asked about their motives, they said they wanted to check whether DJ Arafat was really in the coffin.

Awards

In 2016 and 2017 DJ Arafat was named Ivory Coast Artist of the Year . At the KORA All Africa Music Awards 2012, he won the Best Male Artist West Africa category .
