DSSI

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DSSI ( acronym for Disposable Soft Synth Interface , pronounced like dizzy ) is a free plug-in interface for virtual instruments under Linux . DSSI plugins mostly receive MIDI data and generate audio signals from it. Common applications are software synthesizers and samplers . A DSSI-capable host program such as Rosegarden or jack-dssi is required to use and control the plugins . DSSI is closely related to the LADSPA interface .

DSSI is the free equivalent of the proprietary VST interface from Steinberg . It is now possible to use many VST instruments for Microsoft Windows together with dssi-vst and Wine under Linux.

DSSI may be out of date and will be replaced by LV2 .
