The German School Seoul International (DSSI) is a German-speaking school abroad in Seoul , South Korea. The DSSI, also known as the German School Seoul International , was founded in 1976 and is privately sponsored by the German School Seoul Association. As a school abroad, it is recognized by the Federal Republic of Germany and funded by the Central Agency for Schools Abroad of the Federal Office of Administration.

School structure and organization

The DSSI enables the attendance of the kindergarten from the age of 2–6 years and then the elementary school from the first to the fourth grade. After an orientation phase in the 5th grade, lessons in the lower secondary level take place in an “integratively differentiated” manner. After a total of 9 or 10 school years, the secondary school certificate or the technical college entrance qualification can be obtained. After a total of 12 school years, the upper secondary level leads to the German International Abitur examination (DIAP), which could be taken for the first time from the 2010/2011 school year.

The DSSI is designed as an all-day school and offers pupils on a voluntary basis a wide range of cross-class activities in the areas of sport, music, works, mathematics and foreign languages. In this way, the children can receive individual support and acquire professional and social skills. A student canteen is available during lunch breaks. The children are looked after professionally with their homework.

A particular strength of the school is the numerically favorable ratio of students to teachers. On average there is one teacher for every six students.

The DSSI student body consists of German or German-native speaker and South Korean children as well as children from other countries and cultures.

Extracurricular events

Numerous special activities take place at the DSSI. So high-ranking politicians and famous artists attended the school. These included the President of the Bundestag Norbert Lammert , Member of the Bundestag, in 2008, soloists with the Berliner Philharmoniker , Sol Gabetta and Jan Vogler . The students also take part in important cultural events, such as a joint appearance by DSSI students with the South Korean pop group 2AM on the occasion of a gala evening that was broadcast live by the KBS TV station on June 19, 2010. The students traditionally show themselves to be victorious when they take part in the International Ski Festival in Yongpyong. They are also involved in charitable causes such as a facility for the disabled in Incheon. All of these activities enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge.
