DVD Decrypter was a freeware computer program developed by LIGHTNING UK! was developed. It enables the contents of a film DVD to be saved on the hard drive.

history

The first version of DVD Decrypter was released in November 2000. Starting with the completely new version 3.0 released on September 2, 2001, the program has been completely revised several times.

Prohibition of the program

Since the program with the possibility of bypassing several DVD encryption techniques violates a copy protection law passed in October 2003, LIGHTNING UK! forced to stop development immediately in June 2005. As a result, the copy protection manufacturer Macrovision Corporation acquired all rights to the software and had it removed from most mirrors .

Since then, LIGHTNING UK! the freeware ImgBurn , which is considered to be the unofficial successor of the DVD Decrypter "with regard to the burning function" , but z. B. no longer contains copy protection bypass mechanisms.
