The DZ-4 GmbH is the first decentralized power company in Germany. The company was founded in Hamburg in February 2012 and has introduced a leasing model for photovoltaic systems and battery storage systems geared towards single-family home owners .

Companies

The company is organized on a decentralized basis. The headquarters with around 45 employees is located in Hamburg . Nationwide, there are local sales representatives for sales and over 50 craft businesses for the planning and construction of the photovoltaic systems .

The company offers solar power systems with and without electricity storage for lease or rent. A distinction is made between the products DZ-4 EASY, an individually planned solar power system, and DZ-4 AUTARK, in which the solar system is supplemented by a battery storage system. The costs for planning and setting up the solar system, as well as insurance, maintenance, repairs and ongoing operations are allocated to a fixed rental rate over the term of the contract. An optional residual power supply with green electricity is offered through a partnership with the green electricity provider Polarstern GmbH . DZ-4 states that the mission of the business model is to make the supply of solar power from your own roof as easy as possible for every homeowner.

history

In February 2012 Tobias Schütt and Florian Berghausen founded DZ-4 GmbH. The first solar system for rent in Germany was installed in December of the same year.

In 2014, the company successfully completed crowdfunding via the Econeers online platform. 143 investors participated in the start-up with a total of 180,000 euros in the form of a participation loan .

EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG has been a VC investor in DZ-4 since 2015 . It is the first investment by EnBW New Ventures GmbH, which was also founded in 2015. In the same year Hanns-Ferdinand Müller , former spokesman for the executive board, CEO and CFO of RWE Vertrieb AG, took over as chairman of the advisory board of DZ-4 GmbH.

In March 2016, the advisory board was strengthened by Thomas Rüschen, CEO of Deutsche Oppenheim Family Office AG.

In 2017 the DZ-4 underwent an audit by Allianz Climate Solutions, the competence center for renewable energies of Allianz SE , and was awarded the "Allianz Trusted Partner" seal. DZ-4 GmbH appeared as one of the protagonists in the film “Building with the Energy Turnaround” by the freelance TV journalist Frank Farenski, published in February 2017.

In 2019, DZ-4 received a further 20 million euros for the financing of solar projects, while in spring 2019 7.7 million euros in growth capital was raised as part of a Series B financing.

Memberships

The DZ-4 is a member of the German Solar Industry Association and the Renewable Energy Cluster Hamburg.

As a player, the company is actively involved in the Hamburg Solar Offensive, which was founded in May 2017 and has set itself the goal of installing photovoltaic systems on a further 5,000 roofs in Hamburg by 2020 .
