Zhou Brothers

Zhou Brothers are an artist duo consisting of the two brothers Shan Zuo Zhou and Da Huang Zhou. Their combination of Eastern and Western aesthetics has made them internationally known.

Biography and education

Shan Zuo Zhou was born in 1952, Da Huang Zhou in 1957 in Guangxi , China . From 1978 to 1982 they studied at the Shanghai University for Theater and Art, from 1983 to 1984 at the National Academy for Art and Crafts in Beijing, where they obtained a diploma in painting and fresco painting.

Creating art

The way the Zhou Brothers work is characterized by the fact that they all create their works together. They describe this process as a state of simultaneous meditation and communication.

In addition to paintings and prints, they also make sculptures. They use a number of different materials, often including oil, coal, sand, wood, bronze, lead and silk.

In addition, the artist duo appears again and again with public painting performances - for example at the World Economic Summit 2000 in Davos, Switzerland . In 2008 they were guest at the United Nations in New York with their performance “Wisdom of Energy” .
