from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The umbrella organization Winterthur Sport (abbr .: DWS ) is the umbrella organization of the Winterthur sports clubs . The association, founded on June 28, 1971, represents 121 sports clubs from the city of Winterthur, some of which belong to the umbrella association as a whole association. The association acts as a lobby group and mediator for the sports clubs vis-à-vis the city of Winterthur. Daniel Frei has been president of the association since 2009.

During the holidays, holiday courses for schoolchildren are offered at the various sports clubs, with around 2,000 children and young people taking part each year. The association initiated the first organization of such courses in 1973, two years after it was founded.

The association was also in charge of submitting a municipal initiative “A roof for everyone”, which aims to remedy the shortage of sports halls . In local elections, the umbrella association has been compiling a recommendation list of politicians who campaign for sport in Winterthur since 2010.

The DWS also coordinates the distribution of urban funding between the individual associations. It also regulates the distribution of the scarce sports halls to the sports clubs in Winterthur.
