Dagao Xuandian

The Dagao Xuandian ( Chinese  大 高 玄 殿 , Pinyin Dàgāo Xuándiàn , English Hall of High Heaven ) is an important Daoist temple in the Xicheng district of the Chinese capital Beijing . It was built in 1542 by Emperor Jiajing during the Ming Dynasty . The temple is located in the northwest of the Beijing Imperial Palace ( Gugong ) and was the imperial Taoist temple during the Ming and Qing dynasties . It has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (4-128) since 1996 .
