Daħlet Qorrot

Daħlet Qorrot is a small bay in the northeast of the Maltese island of Gozo .

location and size

The bay's beach has a sandy beach about 30 meters wide. At its widest point, the bay measures around 150 meters. Daħlet Qorrot is located near the villages of Nadur and Qala . The bay can be reached from Nadur.

Importance for tourism

From a tourist point of view, Daħlet Qorrot is probably the least important bay on Gozo. This is mainly due to its small size. The actual bay is considerably larger, but most of it is not safe to reach. There is no public transport that goes to Daħlet Qorrot. The bay is relatively easy to reach by car, two-wheeler or on foot. In addition to the two larger bays Ramla Bay and San Blas Bay , Daħlet Qorrot is the third bay with a sandy beach in the northeast of the island. The diving sport, which is very popular on Gozo, also takes place very rarely. The large diving centers do not do any dives here. Nevertheless, Daħlet Qorrot's location is one of the most beautiful on Goz.

environment

Unlike the two neighboring bays Ramla Bay and San Blas Bay, Daħlet Qorrot does not come under the Poseidon protection project of the Malta Environment and Planning Authority. The area around Daħlet Qorrot, including the bay, is part of the Natura 2000 project. The aim of this project is to preserve important national and international ecosystems. At the same time, however, this should be done from a socio-economic point of view, in which agriculture as well as tourist and maritime activities are integrated.

vegetation

The vegetation in the bay and the nearby slopes is very similar to that of the two nearby Ramla Bay and San Blas Bay. Mainly figs ( Ficus carica ), prickly pear cacti ( Opuntia ) and capers ( Capparis spinosa ) can be found. Tamarisks also often grow here.

Marine life

Extensive seagrass meadows and sandy areas can be found under water. The typical life forms for this habitat can be found here. These are species such as octopus , sepia , flatfish, and small rays .

use

Daħlet Qorrot is used as a harbor by local fishermen. When there is a storm, the smaller boats are moved to huts that are carved into the surrounding rock.

Surroundings

On the way to the bay, the road leads past terraced gardens in which mainly citrus fruits are grown. Via a small staircase you can hike three small grottos on the right side of the bay.
