Dalaba is the capital of the Dalaba prefecture in the Mamou region in Guinea (West Africa), about 280 kilometers from Conakry . It is the highest city in Guinea.

history

At the time of the French colonization, colonial officials took a rest in a sanatorium , as the climate in Dalaba is very mild. Miriam Makeba had one of her residences here during her exile in Guinea.

education

In 2004 the Institute for Science and Veterinary Medicine (English: Higher Institute of the Sciences and Veterinary Medicine ISSMV) was established in Dalaba by the Ministry of Higher Education. It includes veterinary medicine, biotechnology, manufacturing engineering and fisheries. The first students were accepted in 2006, and 788 students were enrolled in 2017, including people from other West African countries.

economy

Vegetable cultivation, strawberry cultivation, indigo dyeing and a decreasing tree population of around 70 km² are of supraregional importance .
