Dalton Castle

Dalton Castle 2007

Dalton Castle is a Peel tower in the town of Dalton-in-Furness in the English county of Cumbria . It is now administered by the National Trust . English Heritage has listed it as a Grade I Historic Building.

The tower was built by the monks of Furness Abbey in the 14th century to protect the nearby market town. From there the abbot administered the area and held court hearings.

Today Dalton Castle houses a local history museum and an exhibition by the city-born painter George Romney .
