A woman's choice is a reversal of the usual order of prompts in the couple dance , not the gentleman speaks to the lady, but the lady speaks to the gentleman. The women's choice often marks the climax of a ball as a breach of etiquette .

In sociobiology , the term women's choice indicates that in nature it is almost always the females who play the decisive role in choosing a partner (intersexual selection).
