Dan Larimer

Daniel "Dan" Larimer is a software developer and entrepreneur specializing in cryptocurrencies and blockchain applications . He was instrumental in the development of the crypto currencies BitShares (2014), Steem (2016) and EOS (2017). Dan Larimer's net worth was estimated at $ 600-700 million by Forbes in February 2018.

Life and education

In 2003 Dan Larimer received a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University .

Together with his father Stan Larimer, Dan Larimer founded the company Cryptonomex Inc., which specialized in advising companies on the emerging blockchain technology.

Dan Larimer's interest in blockchain technology began in the early days of Bitcoin in 2009 .

Career

Daniel Larimer is considered to be the inventor of the DPOS ( Delegated Proof of Stake ) consensus algorithm and the creator of Graphene technology.

BitShares

In 2013, Larimer created Bitshares, the first cryptocurrency to use the DPOS ( Delegated Proof of Stake ) consensus algorithm for block verification .

Steem

At the beginning of 2016, Larimer left BitShares to set up the Steem Blockchain and the social network Steemit based on it together with Ned Scott . After founding, he was CTO of Steemit until his retirement on March 14, 2017 .

EOS.IO

On June 26, 2017, Larimer announced the launch of EOS , one of the largest and most valuable cryptocurrencies in terms of total market capitalization.

Science and teaching

At his former university, the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University , Dan Larimer worked on several occasions in an advisory and teaching role on the subject of blockchain. He also pledged $ 3 million in financial support to the IT department there.
