Dan Peterman

Dan Peterman (* 1960 in Minneapolis ) is an American installation artist .

life and work

Dan Peterman studied up to a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and did a Master of Fine Arts at the University of Chicago . He accepted a position as professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Since the 80s Peterman has artistically dealt with the topic of recycling and further processing of materials. He works at the interface of art, ecology and economy . In 1986 Peterman began to work in the Resource Center in the building complex “The Building” and at the same time moved into a studio in the building. The former parking garage was operated by the philosopher Ken Dunn. "The Building" burned down in 2001 and reopened in 2004. Peterman continues it today under the name "Experimental Station".

In 2001 the exhibition Dan Peterman: 7 Deadly Sins took place at the Kunstverein Hannover . In 2017 Dan Peterman was a participant in documenta 14 .
