Cathedral Cave

Dan yr Ogof , also known as "the National Showcaves Center for Wales", is a cave system about 17 kilometers long, about eight kilometers north of Ystradgynlais in the Brecon Beacons National Park in south Wales . The main feature of the show cave complex, which is said to be the largest in Europe, is three different show caves, the front sections of which are open to the public:

  • the Dan-yr-Ogof cave with its waterfalls, the lake and the alabaster columns ,
  • the Bone-Cave-Höhle (also called Ogof-yr-Esgyrn), where the bones of about 42 people, 7000 year old deer, as well as bone nails, ceramics, iron, bronze and silver rings, coins and relics from archaeological excavations the time when Roman legions were stationed in the area were excavated.
  • the cavernous Cathedral Cave, with the cathedral and the 13 meter high waterfalls.

The cave system is also a nature reserve and only open to cave explorers .
