Dance World Cup

The Dance World Cup is the largest and most famous international dance competition for children, teenagers and young adults up to 25 years of age. It takes place every year in a different city in a different country. Eligible are students from private ballet schools, dance schools or clubs who have qualified through an official national dance competition in their respective country. There are currently official qualification competitions in around 62 countries around the world. Around 5000 children and young people take part in the Dance World Cup every year. For participants from Germany, the German ballet competition with its five regional competitions, organized by the Munich Ballet Association, is the official qualification competition. The final round of 2017 will take place from June 23rd to July 1st in the Oberrheinhalle in Offenburg .

History of the Dance World Cup

In 1982 Korinna Söhn from Munich founded the "Ballettförderkreis München eV", which has organized the German ballet competition since 1983. The German ballet competition took place every one, two or three years in a theater in the greater Munich area. In 2000 Korinna Söhn started organizing a corresponding competition in Greece, which took place in Piraeus in 2001 and 2002 as the "Hellas Dance Festival".

When schools from nine countries and three continents took part in the German ballet competition in 2003, Korinna Söhn initiated the "Dance World Cup", which was held for the first time in 2004 in the Fürstenfeld event forum in Fürstenfeldbruck .

Since 2009 the "Dance World Cup Society" with its headquarters on the island of Jersey has been the organizer of the Dance World Cup. The administrative director is John Grimshaw, the artistic director is Korinna Söhn.
