Dandsandardschaa Chiid

Dandsandardschaa Chiid ( Mongolian Данзандаржаа хийд ) is a Buddhist monastery in the province of Chöwsgöl-Aimag in northern Mongolia . Chiid is the Mongolian word for "monastery".

The monastery Dandsandardschaa Chiid is located on the western edge of the city of Mörön , the 1283 m. ü. d. M. is on the road to the airport.

history

The city of Mörön was an important religious center in northern Mongolia in the 19th century. The Dandsandardschaa Chiid monastery was founded around 1890 and was originally called Möröngiin Churee. Up to 2500 monks lived here. a. famous for its tsam dances.

In 1937, Dandsandardschaa Chiid was destroyed in Mongolia during the Stalinist terror . After the end of the Mongolian People's Republic in 1989, reconstruction began immediately. The reopening of the monastery took place in June 1990, and the monastery complex, in which 40 monks currently live, is constantly being expanded.

Plant and building

The monastery area, which is relatively large compared to other monastery complexes in Mongolia, is located on flat terrain on the western edge of the city. The stupas erected at the entrance are visible from afar. In the middle of the complex is the temple, which is heavily frequented by the city's residents, in which the ceremonies customary in Tibetan Buddhism are held daily, and which - in contrast to other temples in Mongolia - is surrounded by flower beds. Not far from there, accommodation for the monks and several outbuildings were built in various architectural styles. Numerous high stupas have already been completed on the site of the monastery, and several more are currently still under construction - this shows the special importance of the monastery. To the south of the temple, a large Buddha statue, visible from afar, was also erected.
