Daniel A. Sumner

Daniel Alan Sumner (* 1950 ) is an American agricultural economist . He is a professor at the University of California, Davis .

Life

Sumner grew up on a fruit farm in the Suisun Valley . He received his BS in Agricultural Management from California Polytechnic State University in 1971 . He received an MA in economics from Michigan State University in 1973 ; the doctorate took place in 1978 at the University of Chicago . Between 1978 and 1992 Sumner was a professor at North Carolina State University , but most of the time after 1986 he worked for the government in Washington, DC 1987–1988 he was a member of the Council of Economic Advisers . He was also at the USDA . He has been a professor at Davis since 1993.

Sumner conducts research in the fields of agricultural and trade policy , human capital and market regulation . One focus is on agricultural trade with Korea , as well as the milk and rice sectors .
