Daniel Landa (born November 4, 1968 in Prague ) is a Czech singer and actor.

Life

Landa studied musical dramaturgy and started a film career. He saw acting as a means of rebelling against the communist regime, which he lost interest in after the fall of the Iron Curtain . In the mid-1990s he played in two German television productions of " Alles bes Mord ", but mainly devoted himself to music.

In 1996 he and his wife Miriam, of German descent, realized the dream of producing a musical . “Krysař” (“Pied Piper”), however, was received controversially. Many saw in it allusions to his past as a skinhead during communist rule and his membership in the right-wing band “Orlík” (named after the bar in which the band was founded), which he now distances himself from.

In 2000 he brought out an album “ Best of Landa” and considered his singing career to be over. He wanted to focus on rallying but was still under contract with Monitor EMI and couldn't stop.

In 2003 he started the project “ Rockquiem ” and brought Mozart's Requiem into a modern version in collaboration with the German composer Stefan Wurz . The original Latin language was retained. A total of around 70 people were involved in the unusual project and 12 performances were staged. In January 2007 the ballet “Amadeus” by Ralf Rossa with music from Landa's “Rockquiem” was performed in the Halle Opera House .

For various reasons, he traveled to Afghanistan more often and also shot a music video with the Afghan singer Sediq Shobab . In an interview, he described what he did by saying that he wanted to find his real roots.

Controversy

The skinhead band Orlík only had a short career with two albums and was heavily criticized for their racist tones, especially towards the Czech Roma. However, the band denied these allegations, claiming that their music had been misunderstood, that it was not racist but patriotic.
