Stefan Wurz

Stefan Wurz (born October 24, 1964 in Karlsruhe ) is a German composer .

Life

Wurz studied musicology and German and published a study on the myth of the femme fatale in opera. By working with independent theater groups, he increasingly occupied himself with music theater. In addition to his work as a composer for film and theater, he works as a musical director, arranger, producer, guitarist and pianist. His musical career began with classical piano training and as a composer, guitarist and keyboard player for various rock bands.

In 1994 he was the first composer to set Aldous Huxley's Brave New World to music in collaboration with librettist Roland Maier . His splatter opera Da Capo al Fine was awarded at the 2002 Works in Progress musical competition in Hamburg. In 2003, in cooperation with the Czech producer Daniel Landa , the Rockquiem was created , a rock show based on Mozart's Requiem , which, after its much-acclaimed premiere in Prague, was also produced in Italy, Hungary, Norway and Germany.

Wurz lives in Hildesheim .
