Danny Toan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Danny Toan (birth name Danforth Noyes Toan ; * 1951 ) is an American fusion guitarist and composer. His style can be described in the broadest sense as jazz rock .

Toan comes from a musical family: his father, the architect Danforth W. Toan, was a jazz saxophonist; his brother Braden is a conductor. His publications under his own name date from the 1970s. This resulted in a degree of fame as a so-called Musicians' Musician, i.e. a musician who was primarily known to insiders of the music scene. In 1976 he was a member of Larry Young's band Fuel ( Spaceball ) and Larry Coryell's Eleventh House ( Aspects ); Coryell has interpreted some of his pieces. In 1978 he was involved in the recording of the albums Something Like a Bird by Charles Mingus and Sunbelt by Herbie Mann .

Tom Lord records only six Toan's recording sessions between 1976 and 1979. At the Baltimore Museum , he played with John Lee and Gerry Brown in 2000 ; In 2013 he performed at the 70th birthday concert of Coryell.
