history
Wilhelm Rummel founded a restaurant with an attached brewery near the railway line in 1847 and called it "zur Eisenbahn".
In 1880 the production facilities reached their capacity limits. Relocation to the current location provided a remedy. In the same year, the brewery bar, the “Braustüb'l”, also opened here. In 1912, the Darmstadt main station was built in the immediate vicinity of the brewery . Inspired by the growing importance of the railroad for people's lives, the locomotive (the "Rummel-Lok") found its way into the brewery's logo as a symbol of dynamism, energy and movement.
In 1997, the Darmstadt private brewery celebrated its 150th anniversary with a large brewery festival. To celebrate the event, the Zwickelbier was reintroduced into the product family, although it was renamed Braustüb'l Naturtrüb in 2012. In 2000, the almost forgotten flip- top bottle was reintroduced and quickly developed into the popular new trademark of Darmstadt beers.
In May 2014, the brewery repositioned itself and geared its brands towards Braustüb'l. Before that, some varieties appeared both under the Darmstädter brand and under Braustüb'l. However, 75 percent of customers bought Pils under the Braustüb'l brand, so that the Darmstädter brand almost completely disappeared. Only the Darmstädter Pilsner is still offered under the old brand and sold in bottles with crown caps.
