Darmstadt House (Plock)
The Darmstadt House in Płock ( Masovian Voivodeship ) is located at Old Market No. 8 (Polish: Stary Rynek) in this city.
Płock has been Darmstadt's twin town since September 24, 1988. The building houses the "House of Friendship Płock - Darmstadt".
The simple house was built on the foundations of an older house at the end of the 18th century. The builder is unknown, the first owner was the painter and wine merchant Andrzej Karszowiecki (1776–1844). He studied painting in Düsseldorf and Warsaw with Marcello Bacciarelli .
A hostel called "Hotel Berliński" was operated in the house. In the courtyard building an apartment was rented for a longer stay, as well as two rooms, the walls of which were decorated with pictures painted by the landlord. Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann (1776–1822) lived in the Berlin hotel from 1802–1804 . In the period from 1815 to 1880 the house changed hands six times.
In the 1930s it was the seat of an insurance company, after the Second World War until the 1990s it served as a residential building.
After a general overhaul in 1995–1996, it serves as the Darmstadt House of the partnership between Darmstadt and Płock.
The ETAHoffmann memorial plaque is located on the right, and an information board with the inscription on the left:
