Marcello Bacciarelli (born  February 16,  1731 in Rome , †  January 5,  1818 in Warsaw ) was an Italian painter of Rococo and Classicism .

Live and act

Bacciarelli began his studies in Rome and had his first commissions in Dresden at the court of Friedrich August II of Saxony . In 1756 he visited Warsaw and made his first acquaintance with Stanisław August Poniatowski , the future King of Poland . In 1764 he traveled to Vienna , where he also met the Empress Maria Theresa and found employment there. From 1766 he stayed in Poland permanently. During this period (1776–1785) he ran a studio in the castle and the paintings in the Warsaw Royal Castle , which are still exhibited there, were also created. The wall paintings in the knight's hall and marble room were also created by him.

In 1816, Bacciarelli was made an honorary professor at the Royal University of Poland. He was also made an honorary member of the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden, Vienna and Berlin. He died in Warsaw in 1818.
