The Dartmouth and Torbay Railway was a British railway company based in Devon , England.

The company received on July 27, 1857 the concession to build a wide-gauge (2140 mm) railway line from the end of the South Devon Railway (SDR) in Torre via Torbay to Kingswear , a place on the Dartmouth opposite side of the River Dart . The line was opened on August 2, 1859 to Paignton , on March 14, 1861 to Brixham Road (later Churston ) and on August 16, 1864 to Kingswear. The SDR operated the line and leased it from January 1, 1866. A short time later, it was completely taken over by it. In 1892 the changeover to standard gauge takes place.

On the section between Paignton and Dartmouth, a museum railway operation of the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway has been carried out since autumn 1972 .
