Darwin Radio started operations on September 25, 1913 on the site near the Frogs Hollow casino. During the Second World War , the station was damaged by an air raid by the Japanese military. The station survived the attack. In 1952 the station moved to Parap .

At 2359 UTC on June 30, 2002, the permanent monitoring of all warning and emergency call channels in Australia ended. The Telstra network of all coastal stations (Brisbane Radio, Darwin Radio, Melbourne Radio, Perth Radio, Sydney Radio and Townsville Radio ) has been closed. The MRCC Australia can since then only be reached via mobile phone or satellite radio.
