The thing was a pop-punk formation from the Stuttgart area , which appeared for the first time in February 1996 as a support band at a JBO concert in front of a larger audience.

After Das Ding released the EP Brainsucker in 1993 with WIZO's singer Axel Kurth as a guest guitarist , their first and only full-length album Stupid Enough for This World followed in 1997 . The title song Stupid Enough for This World also appeared on the sampler released by JBO in 1998 ... and fun! The ultimate party sampler . In the same year, the titles Life is mean , loser and also stupid enough for this world appeared on the samplers Empty Records Sampler II and Knuddelpunk 1 .

The thing was the opening act at many JBO concerts from 1996 to 1998. The probably best-known song Stupid Enough for This World , however, was particularly noticeable because of its great similarity to the music of WIZO and the vocals of Axel Kurth.

In 1999 the band broke up for unknown reasons.

Mitch Meister still runs a recording studio called "DerSoundmann".
