action

Lisa Goldfuchs is in love with Max, the secretary of her father, a banker. Since she knows that her father would certainly have something against this connection, he should not find out anything about the secret meetings between the two. During a ride, Lisa's horse goes through. Lisa later claims she tumbled to the ground and Max, a gentleman and great savior, subsequently helped her. Such tricks towards the father are probably also necessary, because the old gold fox does not think much of his secretary, since he has been rather absent-minded since he was in love. When Max then asks his boss for his daughter's hand, the banker fires him. Lisa is very angry with the strictness of her father and leaves with Max. The old gold fox hadn't imagined it that way either, and he therefore asks private detective Joe Tepps, not to be confused with Joe Deebs, to keep a watchful eye on his daughter from now on so that she does not get caught in the wheels. Tepps should always step in when Lisa is up to her neck. Max finds it difficult to get into the world of work and the money available is quickly used up. Lisa tries to earn some extra money as a cleaning lady. Joe Tepps then has an idea: he disguises himself as an Englishman and asks Max about the Mexican embassy. This is the opportunity for Max to finally earn some money as a tour guide.

With what is left of the meager wages for the two of them, Max buys a lottery ticket. In order not to lose it, Lisa hides the ticket in a hat that is in a shop. When their ticket wins, they want to get the ticket, but the hat has since been sold to a dancer. Lisa runs to the dancer's house, but she explains that she no longer has the hat. Since she didn't like it, she would have just thrown it out the window. Now the story becomes completely absurd: The fake Englishman alias Joe Tepps manages to get Lisa to own the hat shop in which the hat with the lot was sold and advertise a big hat swap in the newspaper: For every old hat that is delivered , there would be a new one. Lisa then experienced a real run on her business. But the hat with the lot is not included. Finally, the story takes an even more absurd twist: a petty crook comes into business with the hat he is looking for. After the ad he bought the hat from a friend on the street, who in turn claims to have chased it (!) From a dog, for a sandwich and an egg. The hat is back now, even the ticket ... but suddenly the ticket number no longer matches the winning ticket! But that doesn't matter, because this absurd action made Lisa's hat shop so popular that business is booming from now on. Lisa and Mr. Papa are reconciled, and for the happy ending the banker also gives his blessing regarding Lisa's upcoming marriage to Max.

Production notes

The big lot was four acts long, was censored in April 1917 and was banned from young people. The first performance of this film was in May 1917 in Berlin's marble house .

criticism

“As in the drama, the detective stories are always extremely popular in comedy, as the satirizing of the detective alone gives rise to amusement and a happy mood, as is the case here too. Furthermore, the richness of the episodes of this picture deserves to be noted, as well as the actually funny plot, which is presented just as cheerfully. Lisa Weise plays the leading role with a lot of temperament. "
