The open book (original title: Открытая книга ) is a novel by Weniamin Kawerin , which was written between 1948 and 1956.

The open book is a development novel that tells the life story of the girl Tanja, who comes from a poor district of a Russian provincial town. When she gets caught in a duel between two students and is injured, she is adopted by rich parents. She experienced the developments in the course of the October Revolution and began studying microbiology in Moscow , which she pursued with great ambition. However, she cannot fulfill her wish to become an actress.

Film adaptations

The novel was filmed in the Soviet Union in 1973 and 1977.
