The data container is the core element of the data container technology of the same name. The basic idea is to use the easy-to-use, globally distributed standard format JPEG File Interchange Format (JFIF) as a new media container format available on all operating systems .

From a technical point of view, the data container is a JPEG-based data network , consisting of image, image descriptions, indexing, any files and signatures. The data network is retained as JFIF over the entire life cycle and can be handled like a normal JFIF. The indexing enables effective search mechanisms to be used even with extensive image stocks without the need for a database.

The special feature of this technology lies in the fact that any accompanying information can be embedded directly in the JFIF data container. Specifically, in addition to simple descriptions such as IPTC or Exif , XML , video, audio, office or text documents, various image formats such as RAW , hash values, signatures and other information of all kinds can be saved directly in the data container. IPTC and Exif standards are supported and significantly expanded.

Since the data container itself is a completely normal JFIF file, the complete data network can now use all the advantages of this standard format. The data container is easy and robust to handle, easy to manage, distribute and is suitable for long-term archiving . In this way, self-sustaining archives can also be created that can be used online and offline e.g. B. are available on CD-ROM and on a wide variety of devices.

The data container can be provided with any signature . In contrast to conventional watermarks , the image and accompanying information are signed, the media information remains available at all times.

This technology is already used to support image-based documentation of construction projects, maintenance and revision in industry and in the medical field.

Cryptography programs such as CrossCrypt , FreeOTFE and TrueCrypt can use data containers to store key information in files. The file format is basically irrelevant.
