Data definition specifications (abbr .: DDS , English Data Definition Specifications ) is on the IBM System / 38 and AS / 400 used type of data description for program-described files .

Functions

By using the data definition specifications, file attributes can be described externally, not in the application program itself, but in program-independent file descriptions.

Files for DDS use can be:

  • Physical files
  • Logical files
  • Screen files
  • Printer files
  • Remote data processing files and BSC files
