The Internet portal Dating Cafe is a partner exchange on the Internet. The website has existed since 1998 and has been owned by the Hamburg investment company iVentureCapital GmbH since November 2014.

history

Dating Cafe was founded in August 1998 by the engineer for environmental technology Heike von Heymann with starting capital of 55,000 DM . 2000 began dating Cafe, also blind dates and single trips to organize, and thus was the first single stock market in Germany, which is also involved in the event sector. The portal was operated by the founder for 10 years until it was taken over by Siegburg- based Allesklar AG in 2008 , which operates the meinestadt.de internet platform and has been owned by Axel Springer AG Digital Classifieds GmbH since October 2012 is located. In November 2014, Dating Cafe changed hands again and has been part of iVentureCapital ever since.

facts and dates

According to its own information, DatingCafe has around 1.41 million members and around 800 new registrations every day. The majority of the members are between 30 and 50 years old. The average age of the male members is 35 years and the female 44 years. The newly registered members identify themselves with an official photo ID.

criticism

In the beginning, DatingCafe was free for all women and only men had to pay. In this way, the operators wanted to avoid a surplus of men. After a few years it turned out that - as in other dating portals - there was an excess of women over 45 years of age. In order to attract more older men, the dating service changed the price model and from December 2006 introduced a payment obligation for women aged 45 and over. At the same time, men who did not pay were allowed to write to women over 45 free of charge, provided they had registered with an identity card. This measure provoked heated discussions, some women felt discriminated against because of their age. Others found it positive because the increased proportion of men resulted in a better chance of love happiness, even at their age. Because of this market regulation, Dating Cafe had 50% men and 50% women. In June 2012, Dating Cafe changed its pricing model so that all participants have to pay. Since then, the proportion of men has fallen back to 40%. The ratio of male to female participants is currently 48 to 52 percent according to their own statements.

Awards

In March 2011 (magazine test, issue 3/2011) Dating Cafe was the test winner at Stiftung Warentest in the single exchange category (grade 2.7). In the test of the dating sites of the German Institute for Service Quality , Dating Cafe landed in second place, just behind Friendscout24.
