The Congregation of the Daughters of Mary ( order abbreviation : DM ) is a women's religious order of the mission of the Syro-Malankara-Catholic Church , an Indian Eastern Church united with Rome with a West Syrian rite .

founding

The order was founded in 1938 by Monsignor Joseph Kuzhinjalil in Marthandom in the southern Indian district of Kanyakumari .

tasks

The mission of the Congregation is to bring the gospel to the poor and neglected , with an emphasis on holistic support for the development of families. The Congregation runs children's homes, old people's homes and palliative centers; she works in the fight against leprosy, tuberculosis and AIDS. It also operates colleges, health facilities, employment centers, day care centers, and facilities for the mentally and physically disadvantaged.

The main activities take place in the state of Kerala in and around its capital Thiruvananthapuram in southern India. The order is divided into four provinces in India; there are 20 other dioceses worldwide (in Germany among others in Bonn and Frankfurt).
