Daulis ( ancient Greek Δαυλίς , also Daulia , Dauleia ) was an ancient city in the Greek countryside of Phocis .

The Greek mythology called Daulis as the home of Tereus . Even Homer mentions the city, according to a homonymous nymph (the daughter of the river god Kephisos said to be named).

During the Persian Wars , Daulis became 480 BC. First destroyed. 395 BC The city was attacked by Thebes . 346 BC Daulis was destroyed again in the Third Holy War . 220 BC The Aitolians attacked the city. 198 BC The Romans took the city under Titus Quinctius Flamininus .

In late antiquity , Daulis was a bishopric (the titular diocese of Daulia of the Roman Catholic Church goes back to the diocese ). Remnants of the city walls can still be seen in the village of Davlia .
